Abstract: The goal under this work is to design a Honeypot based system for fighting spam at the sources intead of receivers. Firstly, spammer activities are analyzed, such us e-mail harvesting or hiding trace operations by using open proxy and open relay servers. The main idea is to hinder and stop such spammers activities slowing down the harvesting process, poisoning their databases, identifying sources and blocking spam. Requeriments are analyzed and then a final component based design is presented. Each component consist of a different Honeypot which acts on one of the activities described above. These Honeypots can be deployed alone or as part of a major framework for fighting spam. For better implementation, the state of art of Honeypot technology is first studied. Finally, the system is builded up and exposed for testing. At the end of work, we get a powerful framework for fighting spam while promoting a cleaner Internet.
