Abstract: This work addresses Alzheimer's disease (AD) from a multidisciplinary perspective, that is, biomedical and neuropsychological aspects are considered. The main objective is to gather enough information about this pathology to guide the neuropsychological clinical practice. The aim is to elaborate a complete and updated theoretical framework on AD: pathological anatomy, etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment, particularly focusing on the possibilities and effectiveness of cognitive stimulation, according to the evidence found in the scientific literature. In order to achieve these objectives, a non-systematic but exploratory bibliographic review is carried out, although the selected literature meets some inclusion criteria with the purpose of guaranteeing that the retrieved information is pertinent and current. It is concluded that an interdisciplinary approach to AD is positive, and that cognitive stimulation seems to be beneficial, especially in early and prodromal disease stages. However, more studies are needed to achieve a higher level of evidence.
