Abstract: The aim of this essay is to analyze the preservation of virtual social networks. Cultural heritage includes digitally born documents. It is intended to achieve a long-term preservation. Realistic policies are needed to solve the problems. We must work on data protection and the defense of intellectual property. Always accepting the right to information. The strategies of social preservation that we present are application programming interfaces (API), data resellers, third-party services, platform self-archiving services, research dataset identifiers and research documentation and metadata. Along with the strategies we present projects carried out with five social networks, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter. Finally, we look at study case about the most successful Spanish social network sites named Tuenti.
