Author: Saumell Serra, Jordà

Abstract: This research project aims to delve into the work of the Institut Ramon Llull as an institution that carries out the dissemination of Catalan language and culture abroad, a will of global projection that can be explained by two different theoretical approaches: one that is based on the dissemination of language and culture as the basis of national identity in order to guarantee their survival, and another that refers to the commodification of language and culture in the current context of globalization. The thesis focuses on the presence of Catalan language and culture in universities abroad, specifically in the Anglosphere world. There is an interest in learning how Catalan, a minoritised language, has managed to be introduced in the context of such an important and powerful language as English, and to verify if this presence is in accordance with the criteria of the Institut Ramon Llull. For this reason, the academic programmes of Catalan Studies from various universities belonging to territories of the Anglosphere world will be analysed: the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States of America, the Anglophone Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
