Abstract: This Master's Final Project presents an analysis of the positioning results obtained from the raw GPS measurements acquired with a mobile phone based on the Android operating system, with the main objective of demonstrating that it is possible to conduct in this fi eld of knowledge research tasks of interest to the scientific community, using a commercial receiver like a mobile phone instead of expensive professional receivers. For this, data acquisitions have been carried out in three di fferent experimental environments: one outdoors with good visibility, another outdoors with reduced visibility and a third indoors. Next, software applications have been developed to analyze the observables of the acquired signals and to compute the position of the receiver from these observables and from the GPS satellites ephemeris obtained from a NASA FTP server. The statistical characterization of the results shows that the use of a weighted linear regression method (WLS) to solve the system of positioning equations improves these results with respect to those obtained with an unweighted method (LS) in the outdoor environments, although this improvement is not signi ficant in the indoor environment. Regardless of these results, the realization of this work has allowed the acquisition of the necessary knowledge and the development of those software tools to carry out, from them, a research of interest in this important technological area, thus ful filling the main objective of this work.
