Abstract: The master's thesis "The protocol of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Democracy (1980-2017)" analyses the structure and the functions of the protocol offices of the President's Department and the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya since 1980, under the presidency of Jordi Pujol, until 2017, under the presidency of Carles Puigdemont. The research examines the process of professionalisation of the official protocol of the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya in parallel with the evolution of public management from the 80s and 90s to 2017. It also offers a descriptive analysis of the protocol offices that aims to be useful for defining the functions and the needs of the protocol offices of the Generalitat de Catalunya and, at the same time, to bear witness to a task that, often in the shade, accompanies the actions of Catalan politics during this period. The research method is based on the triangulation of the results obtained from the analysis of provisions published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat (DOGC), the Official State Gazette (BOE) and other documentation from the Public Service, specialized bibliography and oral sources.
