| Abstract: | Debate in l'Internauta (the cybernaut), the first radio program in the country on the network, a collaboration between the UOC and Vilaweb.
Recently it was confirmed that Amazon, the more powerful e-commerce platform in the net, opened a subsidiary company in Spain on Wednesday. Amazon is currently the most important and diverse selling online portal, with a catalogue containing millions of printed and electronic books, plus a host of products such as CDs, DVDs, games, electronic devices, and even clothing, food and furniture. By the moment, Amazon.es has landed in our home with a supply of physical products, including fifty thousand printed books in Catalan, but it posts many opportunities as questions. How will it affect conventional bookstores? Is there now a market for more modest e-book platforms? Does it encourage e-book business? Do they facilitate self-publishing books? It will cause a growing number of readers in Catalan? We spoke with Enrique Faura, from the Edi.cat platform, and the expert Pep Torn, director of the Virtual Library of the Open University of Catalonia (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). |
