Title: L'ús de la gestualitat en el desenvolupament de la consciència morfològica dels aprenents de l'anglès com a llengua estrangera

Abstract: Based on previous work that relates gestures and learning, this study aims to investigate whether the use of gestures can encourage the development of morphological awareness in the learning of a second foreign language. We observed the changes of morphological awareness rates of 12 Catalan or Spanish speaking students in their first year of secondary school after a training, which consisted of a presentation of slides with words in English. The participants were divided into three experimental groups: a control group (A), a group with oral enhancement (B) and another one with both oral and gestural enhancement (C). The results showed an increase in the level of morphological awareness in groups B and C, higher in the latter as predicted by the hypothesis. However, these results must be carefully considered due to the individual variability within each group and because of the small size of the sample. Finally, some modifications are suggested for a possible replication of the study to a wider sample.
