Abstract: We are in the moment of history in which not only more television series are produced and consumed, but also more discussed. This conversation includes a claim of legitimacy that states that 21st century television fiction is quality television, much better the one previously produced, art, or, in short, highbrow. The main actors in the world of television series (the industry, the culture critics, the audience, etc.) use the same arguments that, repeatedly, have been used to legitimize any cultural expression. They do it, each one of them, however, with their own motives, with an agenda, resulting in a balanced ecosystem of conveniences in which all the agents reinforce the idea of the legitimization of television fiction. The present work, thus, catalogs the different types of legitimacy and highlights these motivations of the agents, exposing social construction that the so called 3rd golden age of the series supposes.
