Abstract: Diabetes has become a pandemic, its prevalence worldwide has gone from 4.7% to 8.5% in the adult population, has almost doubled since 2014, the year in which 422 million adults worldwide suffered from this disease. It is a serious health problem that implies an enormous social and economic cost for the pathologies that it has associated. WHO points to increased overweight and obesity as the main associated reason for the extension of the disease, but in type 2 diabetes lifestyle according to different studies is key, there are modifiable conditions that can decrease in a prominent The risk of developing this metabolic disturbance. In this review we collect scientific studies that support this theory. Demonstrating the lifestyle relationship with type 2 diabetes, the existence of nutritional factors as possible triggers of the disease, as well as measures related to diet modification that have been shown to be effective in delaying it. It will be interesting the research in this line, as it could establish nutritional guidelines that delay or avoid the development of the disease and that could act together with the therapeutic treatment in synergic relationship, favoring the quality of life of the patient and reducing the health costs involved.
