In the past 20 years the number of climbers has grown exponentially, especially in commercial routes. For the southern route the average price is $48,000 and for the northern one the average price is $37,000.
The ascent of the Everest has become big business for important "travel" companies and locals. Nowadays it is dangerous to climb the mountain if you haven't paid the tolls to the various companies located around the mountain.
From January 1st 2015, the government of Nepal is going to change the taxes charged for climbing Mount Everest. It will effect 99% of the climbers since the special rate for groups of seven will disappear. Taxes will have to be paid individually.
