Abstract: Intenet of Things (IoT) has paved the way to self development of small sensor networks in smart homes, and to the visualization of the measurements from any place in real time. The typical design of these networks considers the direct connection of each sensor to a server, or IoT platform, in charge of the processing, visualization and storage of the information. The drawback of this design is that it does not scale efficiently with the number of sensors, because any change in the system is likely to require the reprogramming or reconfiguration of the sensors. This TFG introduces the design of an IoT gateway, based on low cost devices, in charge of gathering the measurements from the sensors, their processing and their routing to a remote IoT platform. The major advantage of using an IoT gateway is the decoupling between the network of sensors and the IoT platform, so that changes in the IoT platform does not necessarily require the reconfiguration of the sensors' network, and the other way around. Moreover, the IoT gateway can be easily reconfigured from a remote location, thus facilitating their management. The IoT gateway proposed in this TFG has been designed as an open infrastructure, it allows other users to connect their own sensors to the IoT gateway and provides open access to the measurements in real time. The validation of this design has been conducted by means of a demonstrator consisting of two networks of 12 and 4 sensors, that continuously monitor temperature and humidity and send the data to a remote IoT platform.
