Abstract: Teleophthalmology, as a method to complement vision health care, has demonstrated to offer the opportunity to improve patient´s care. Unlocking its full potential requires the support of all the stakeholders since their lack of acceptance can mean an impediment to the success of procedures. This systematic review, with focus on determining the evidence provided by research on the acceptance of Teleophthalmology, aims to analyze the existing scientific literature, by identifying approaches used to measure users´ motivation in the use of technologies applied to visual health care. The main drivers and facilitating conditions that influence the intention of use, adoption and actual use of services are mainly aspects of health care quality and economic efficiency. Influencing factors on users´ satisfaction depend on the characteristics of the procedures and include technical, cultural, geographic, economic, social and legal aspects. The utility of Teleophthalmology due to its effectiveness in offering (or receiving) eye health care, is presented as the main driver for acceptance. Trying to predict the acceptance of a system before its development is advisable and, with this purpose, future research should set up a model with an approach on predictors that can adapt to the different environments where Teleophthalmology as a procedure has a potential benefit.
