Title: La expansión del turismo hacia la periferia a través de Airbnb: el caso de Villaverde
Author: Martínez Galíndez, Pablo
Tutor: Gil García, Javier
Abstract: In the last decade, Airbnb has become one of the main drivers of tourism in global cities as a whole. Through the generation of a common imaginary around its role as a collaborative economy, this platform represents a large part of the accommodation places in cities. The strong irruption of the platform in the neighborhoods has generated both a social and academic debate, assuming positions that confront the positivist discourse of the platform and another that legitimizes and reproduces the activity of the platform. Research has focused on the spaces that make up traditional tourist areas, with this work we focus on the periphery. We want to observe what effects the expansion of the tourist city has towards impoverished spaces, what issues generate value for Airbnb to appear in these spaces and finally, we will observe the relationship between the periphery, Airbnb and the invisible work that is generated.
