Title: Traducir el deseo. Aproximaciones a la traducción de textos de temática erótica-sexual
Author: Lizarbe Ruiz, Cristina
Tutor: Borrell Carreras, Helena
Abstract: This work aims to offer a perspective on the translation of erotic-sexual themes today and all that it implies. To do this, we will use various interviews with translation professionals to examine, in the first place, what influences and references have shaped current erotic literature, both Spanish and Basque, and what presence they have had in the cultural and literary background of those who they translate this kind of material. Next, we will address the peculiarities of genre literature in different formats (short story, contemporary novel, genre novel and essay), how they pose different challenges and some of the strategies that are chosen in their translation into two languages in particular. Spanish and Basque. We will also observe in what conditions are the specialized dictionaries and glossaries and, ultimately, all the reference materials that translators use and if there is any kind of deficiency or general trend in them. Finally, we will try to offer several conclusions based on what was exposed in the interviews and from the research carried out on some texts, and also a small projection on sex in written and audiovisual media.
