El sitio de Tiro por Alejandro Magno (332 A. C.)

Abstract

Revisión historiográfica del sitio y captura de la ciudad de Tiro en 332 a. C., acción militar que Alejandro Magno consumó haciendo gala de recursos estratégicos, incluyendo la construcción de un terraplén que terminaría uniendo al continente la isla en la cual se hallaba la ciudad fenicia de Tiro. La captura de esta ciudad es una de las hazañas más celebradas del rey de Macedonia que conquistó el imperio persa y que expandió la zona de influencia de la cultura griega a toda la ecúmene, dando lugar una etapa de la historia antigua conocida como el Periodo Helenístico. Debido a lo impresionante de este logro, considero de interés revisar los elementos estratégicos que configuraron el plan del sitio. Estos elementos se pueden agrupar en las siguientes categorías: el plan en sí mismo; la logística (acopio y disposición de los recursos materiales); la concepción y la construcción de máquinas de asedio; y la concepción de las distintas tácticas. Mención aparte merece la construcción del terraplén para unir la isla al continente. Este trabajo incluye el análisis y la confrontación de las fuentes clásicas, buscando identificar tanto las coincidencias como las diferencias que se presenten entre ellas. Aunque se conoce que hubo fuentes primarias cuyos autores fueron testigos de los hechos, desafortunadamente éstas se han perdido. Por ello se hace un recuento de los autores de dichas fuentes, aunque se recurrirá a fuentes secundarias. Asimismo, recurriré a fuentes modernas que contribuyan a una mejor comprensión del tema.

Historiographic review of the siege and capture of the city of Tire in 332 B. C., a military action that Alexander the Great carried out showing off strategic resources, including the construction of a causeway that would end up joining to the mainland the island on which the Phoenician city of Tire was located. The capture of this city is one of the most celebrated feats of the Macedonian king who conquered the Persian empire and expanded the area of influence of the Greek culture to the entire Ecumene, giving rise to a phase in ancient history known as the Hellenistic Period. Due to the impressiveness of this achievement, I consider it interesting to review the strategic elements that shaped the siege plan. These elements can be grouped into the following categories: the plan itself; logistics (gathering and usage of material resources); the conception and construction of siege engines; and the conception of the different tactics. Special mention should be made of the construction of the causeway to link the island to the mainland. This work includes the analysis and confrontation of the classical sources, seeking to identify both the coincidences and the differences that arise between them. Although it is known that there were primary sources whose authors were witnesses of the events, unfortunately these have been lost. For this reason, a recount is made of the authors of these sources, although secondary sources will be used. Also, I will turn to modern sources that contribute to a better understanding of the subject.

C., acció militar que Alejandro Magno va consumar fent gala de recursos estratègics, incloent la construcció d'un terraplè que acabaria unint al continent l'illa en la qual es trobava la ciutat fenícia de Tir. La captura d'aquesta ciutat és una de les gestes més celebrades del rei de Macedònia que va conquistar l'imperi persa i que va expandir la zona d'influència de la cultura grega a tota la ecúmene, donant lloc una etapa de la història antiga coneguda com el Període Hel·lenístic. A causa de l'impressionant d'aquest assoliment, considero d'interès revisar els elements estratègics que van configurar el pla del lloc. Aquests elements es poden agrupar en les següents categories: el pla en si mateix; la logística (apilament i disposició dels recursos materials); la concepció i la construcció de màquines de setge; i la concepció de les diferents tàctiques. Esment a part mereix la construcció del terraplè per a unir l'illa al continent. Aquest treball inclou l'anàlisi i la confrontació de les fonts clàssiques, buscant identificar tant les coincidències com les diferències que es presentin entre elles. Encara que es coneix que va haver-hi fonts primàries els autors de les quals van ser testimonis dels fets, desafortunadament aquestes s'han perdut. Per això es fa un recompte dels autors d'aquestes fonts, encara que es recorrerà a fonts secundàries. Així mateix, recorreré a fonts modernes que contribueixin a una millor comprensió del tema.
