Abstract: The impact generated by the news of a diagnosis of childhood cancer sets in motion a grieving process in the children who become ill and in their families, which must be elaborated. Preventive emotional support takes on special relevance in this context. It should be noted that pediatric oncohematology units should have interdisciplinary teams, whose main mission is to ensure comprehensive quality care, and should promote psychosocial care from the time of diagnosis and during the illness. Based on the theory of the discipline, psychosocial support is a technique specific to health social work, being a characteristic of its intervention the attention of the losses or deficiencies suffered by the human being in his life, losses that place the individual in a situation of great vulnerability. For all these reasons, this TFM aims to value the skills of the TSS professional in the care of the grieving process that is generated by the diagnosis of childhood cancer, as this is identified as a loss of health that affects all areas of the person's life. It is also relevant to stress the importance of the presence of Health Social Work as a key figure in the reception and accompaniment from the moment of diagnosis in the interdisciplinary team of a pediatric oncohematology service.
