Abstract: In a context of crisis of public space as a place of coexistence influenced, among other elements, by the tendency of traditional urbanism to make the city grow and disperse giving residual attention to the gaps between buildings, this work explores ways to bring people together and generate community awareness by taking advantage of existing urban resources within the consolidated city. In the context of a peripheral neighborhood such as Sant Marcel-lí, in the city of València, we put the València, we put the focus on its intermediate spaces, places usually forgotten or in disuse that can serve as a meeting point between public life and the private sphere in which society has withdrawn. The present work proposes a particular approach to the reality of Sant Marcel-lí, characterized by combining in its development the technical-quantitative analysis with a close look of exploratory type. The goal of this analytical approach is to reveal the opportunities of intermediate spaces as places of singular potential for the enrichment of urban life and for the creation of collectivity. In its outcome, the analytical exercise looks directly at the possibilities for action through the organization of a day of citizen reactivation of an in-between space in Sant Marcel-lí. The action serves to identify opportunities as well as obstacles and limitations for the design of urban strategies for the community reactivation of intermediate spaces.
