Abstract: In recent years, due to the evolution and capacities of the information and communications technologies (ICT), trends such as Big Data, Cloud Computing, or Internet of Things (IoT) have appeared, allowing the interconnection of all kinds of devices and sensors. The application of the IoT to improve the quality of life in cities is what is encompassed in the Smart Cities concept. In this way, the need to incorporate these technologies such as IoT to the rural environment (Smart Rural) has also arisen, in order to improve its productivity and processes. The following work will focus on remote or isolated rural environments, where the fact of not existing coverage for classic connectivity is a handicap to overcome. Starting out from this premise, the different existing technologies based on the IoT and satellite communication with 5G networks will be analyzed to solve the mentioned problem of coverage. Along these lines, a flexible and scalable system will be developed, which will allow the incorporation of different rural areas, for the collection of their data by means of IoT sensors in a terrestrial segment, the communication of this data through a space/satellite segment, and its reception and storage in the cloud services offered by Amazon (AWS). Scripts for the automatic deployment of the scalable infrastructure in the cloud will also be developed. Having adressed these diverse and emerging technologies, conclusions and costs will be drawn from the developed intelligent agriculture system, and future lines of improvement will also be proposed.
