Abstract: During the Master's course, versions of games of different genres have been developed, but strategy games have not been dealt with. In order to apply the knowledge acquired in the Master, we have chosen this genre that gives rise to the advanced use of AI and multiplayer functions. Medieval Warfare' is a multiplayer real-time strategy (RTS) video game for PC, with a cartoon and low poly design set in the Middle Ages. In each game the player will face a randomly chosen opponent among players who are looking for a game or one of his friends within the game. It mixes fighting, healing, collecting, building and repairing mechanics during game time. It also includes character selection mechanics before starting the game, which will influence the player's strategy. At the end of the game, each player gets his reward based on the outcome and can use it to purchase upgraded versions of the characters. Behavior trees have been used to define the AI of the characters that will act as NPCs when they are not controlled by the player. Each character type has its own characteristics. For the multiplayer functions, the Mirror asset has been used for client/server synchronization and the Microsoft Azure PlayFab backend services of login, matchmaking, friends lists, leaderboards and multiplayer servers. The end result is a fully operational 1 vs. 1 multiplayer RTS, whose server version is hosted on an external server which facilitates connectivity between players.
