Title: La imagen-cartoon y su doble. El cine de animación antes de Blancanieves y los siete enanitos
Author: Castilla Cerezo, Antonio
Tutor: Rodríguez-Granell, Ana
Abstract: The objective of this work is to propose a taxonomy of images and signs typical of animated films produced before the worldwide success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). Thus, this research is part of the line inaugurated by Gilles Deleuze in his writings on cinema, although it differs from this insofar as it assumes (unlike the aforementioned French philosopher) that animated cinema has his own typology of images and signs, irreducible to the one that can be identified in the rest of the cinema. Starting from this thesis, in the pages that follow the two central lines of the first animation cinema (that is, cartoon and experimental animation cinema, which correspond respectively to the predominance of the industrial aspect and the artistic aspect of the type of cinema referred to above) are studied separately with the intention of retaining their most relevant contributions, which would later be synthesized to give rise to the main varieties of classic animation cinema.
