Abstract: | Musculoskeletal disorders are very common, especially degenerative disorders such as osteoarthritis, and generate problems such as chronic pain, limited mobility or function, and impairment of quality of life. On the other hand, it generates important health care costs derived from medical visits and different treatments. The main non-surgical treatment for these disorders is physical exercise, which is usually provided by the Rehabilitation Services of specialized care. Currently, these services are overloaded with long waiting lists and overcrowded gyms, which worsens the quality of care. Therefore, there is a need to train Primary Care to be able to solve low complexity musculoskeletal pathology, and to empower patients in the self-management of their musculoskeletal disorder in order to reduce the overload of Rehabilitation Services and improve the musculoskeletal health of the population. Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied in Primary Care could be a useful tool to educate the patient and instruct him/her in therapeutic exercises, but its application in Rehabilitation is poorly developed and little known. Therefore, we propose to conduct a literature review of research papers published in the last 10 years and at international level to know the current status of the application and impact of AI in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. |
