Abstract: The purpose of this research is to learn about the subjective experience in the process of construction of homosexual identity, in a cultural context where heteronormativity is on many occasions imposed as the majority group. It also aims to analyze the process of self-identification of homosexual orientation, taking into account social interaction. Precisely when society imposes patterns of behavior as the norm, it generates difficulties, discrimination and stigma for all those who do not follow or fit in the established codes with their behaviors. As for this, there is a need to investigate which cultural variables affect the homosexual identity construction process, as well as the degree of discomfort or well-being that characterizes the homosexual community. Scientific evidence and current statistics suggest that nowadays people who belong to the homosexual community continue to have experiences such as social rejection, discrimination and stereotyping only because of their sexual identity. Therefore, it is key for this research to dig into the perception of the aforementioned and whether changes in legislation really have a correlation with the extinction of certain inappropriate behaviors. This investigation is carried out from a Social Psychology point of view and, despite considering other theories, it is mainly based on Constructionism. It follows a qualitative approach, with a sample of 40 people, and two main data collection tools have been used: a questionnaire and a structured interview. From the conclusions of this research, one can state that homosexual people continue to have difficulties today to develop their identities due to cultural norms, therefore, it continues to be a problem yet to be solved.
