Abstract: | The European regulatory framework for medical devices has evolved to ensure the safety and health of its citizens. Previously, the 1994 Medical Devices Directive (MDD) prevailed, but technological advances and new patient needs led to the more comprehensive Medical Devices Regulation (MDR). The MDR and the Regulation (EU) 2017/746 on in vitro diagnostic devices establish stricter standards to ensure the safety and efficacy of these products in the EU market and have fostered the development of EUDAMED, a centralized database with information about medical devices in the EU. The objective of this Final Degree Project is the development of a Business Intelligence (BI) solution tasked with collecting, processing, analyzing, and visualizing the information stored in EUDAMED, justified by the need to improve decision-making in the medical device sector. Another purpose of the work is to assess the capacity of the selected analytical visualization tool, in this case, Qlik Sense, to integrate all necessary processes, from data source connection to information publication. Despite encountering difficulties in treating some data during the solution's implementation, the final evaluation has been satisfactory, demonstrating Qlik Sense's potential to facilitate the agile launch of data analytics projects. |
