Title: Diseño de una intervención de educación nutricional dirigida a pacientes mayores con fractura de cadera por fragilidad y disfagia asociada al ingreso hospitalario
Author: Piña Delgado, Gema

Abstract: Hip fracture (HF) due to fragility affects about 50,000 older adults each year in our country. It is usually accompanied by multiple complications leading to the development of geriatric syndromes, such as oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD), with its implications for health and quality of life. The aim of this nutritional education intervention is to train patients with HF and OD related with hospital admission, and their caregivers, in the management of OD, thereby reducing the rates of bronchoaspiration, pneumonia, and short-to-medium-term mortality. The intervention involves 2 groups: a control group receiving standard care and an intervention group. It will be conducted both on the patient and the primary caregiver during the immediate postoperative period of HF, performed at the bedside by a OD specialized nurse. The prevalence of OD associated with HF is so high that addressing these patients should be of special relevance to our healthcare systems. If this project follows the proposed methodology and timeline, it would be feasible to achieve its objectives. The project's implementation would enhance the quality standards of healthcare for these patients and contribute to a more humane healthcare experience.
