PlayKit Play Aut the Box

Abstract

Play AUT the Box is a New European Bauhaus funded project that has designed environmentally- and autism-friendly play infrastructure. It stems from the project Activating Spaces for neurodiverse Publics (ASD Publics), which produced a co-creation manual and design guidelines to improve public playgrounds with and for children with autism and their families. Play AUT the Box builds on the learnings from ASD Publics to co-design a prototype for a green and inclusive outdoors playroom (the Box AUT) and six prototypes of inclusive games (the Games AUT). Much like 'outdesigning' elevates design, in Play AUT the Box, 'AUTdesigning' champions designs that excel in embracing the autistic community. The AUTDesign Playkit is a design manual that describes the design of the Box AUT and the Games AUT, enabling easy replication and modification of these designs.
