Kaito: The Crimson Blade

Abstract

Este proyecto se enfoca en el desarrollo de un videojuego tipo Metroidvania, fusionando arte 2D con entornos 3D mediante el uso del motor Unreal Engine 5.3. Se busca explorar un estilo visual híbrido 2D/3D que aporte una dimensión única tanto a la narrativa visual como a la mecánica de juego. El propósito es crear un prototipo jugable que sirva de base para futuros desarrollos, destacando por su innovación en el estilo visual y el establecimiento de procesos de producción sólidos. Ambientado en un Japón Feudal de fantasía, el juego promete sumergir al jugador en un entorno lleno de misterio y aventura. Se enfrentará a desafíos que van desde superar oleadas de enemigos hasta la necesidad de obtener habilidades o ítems específicos para avanzar, fomentando así una profunda exploración de los entornos 3D. Inspirándose en títulos como "Octopath Traveler", "Paper Mario" y “The Last Night”, el proyecto busca definir una dirección artística novedosa que sirva como referencia para la estética y ambientación del juego. Uno de los principales retos es adaptar un estilo visual distintivo a Unreal Engine, un motor predominantemente 3D, enfrentando los desafíos que implica la integración de elementos 2D. Este trabajo abordará tanto las complejidades técnicas y creativas como los demás aspectos inherentes al desarrollo de videojuegos, proponiendo soluciones innovadoras para la gestión de recursos 2D en un entorno 3D.

This project focuses on developing a Metroidvania-type video game, merging 2D art with 3D environments using Unreal Engine 5.3. The aim is to explore a 2D/3D hybrid visual style that brings a unique dimension to both visual narrative and gameplay mechanics. The purpose is to create a playable prototype that will serve as a foundation for future developments, standing out for its innovation in visual style and the establishment of solid production processes. Set in a fantastical feudal Japan, the game promises to immerse the player in an environment filled with mystery and adventure. Challenges range from overcoming waves of enemies to needing specific abilities or items to progress, thus encouraging deep exploration of the 3D environments. Drawing inspiration from titles like "Octopath Traveler", "Paper Mario", and “Dave The Diver”, the project seeks to define a novel artistic direction that will serve as a reference for the game's aesthetics and setting. One of the main challenges is adapting a distinctive visual style to Unreal Engine, a predominantly 3D engine, facing the challenges of integrating 2D elements. This work will address both the technical and creative complexities as well as the other aspects inherent in video game development, proposing innovative solutions for managing 2D resources in a 3D environment.
