Title: Kaito: The Crimson Blade
Author: Fernández Moya, Pedro Pablo
Director: Fernández Rodríguez, Manel
Tutor: Arnedo Moreno, Joan
Abstract: This project focuses on developing a Metroidvania-type video game, merging 2D art with 3D environments using Unreal Engine 5.3. The aim is to explore a 2D/3D hybrid visual style that brings a unique dimension to both visual narrative and gameplay mechanics. The purpose is to create a playable prototype that will serve as a foundation for future developments, standing out for its innovation in visual style and the establishment of solid production processes. Set in a fantastical feudal Japan, the game promises to immerse the player in an environment filled with mystery and adventure. Challenges range from overcoming waves of enemies to needing specific abilities or items to progress, thus encouraging deep exploration of the 3D environments. Drawing inspiration from titles like "Octopath Traveler", "Paper Mario", and “Dave The Diver”, the project seeks to define a novel artistic direction that will serve as a reference for the game's aesthetics and setting. One of the main challenges is adapting a distinctive visual style to Unreal Engine, a predominantly 3D engine, facing the challenges of integrating 2D elements. This work will address both the technical and creative complexities as well as the other aspects inherent in video game development, proposing innovative solutions for managing 2D resources in a 3D environment.
