Abstract: This final degree project investigates how the evolution of the digital and technological environment has influenced Thomson Reuters' economic and financial strategy during the period 2019-2023. Through a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the company, as well as a comparison with its main competitors, RELX Group and Wolters Kluwer, the aim is to understand the impact of digitalization and technological innovations on Thomson Reuters' financial decisions and results, and its positioning in a constantly changing market. The methodology employed includes the analysis of financial statements, ratios, profitability and other key indicators, adapting the information to objective and comparable concepts and calculations. A vertical and horizontal analysis of the balance sheet, profit and loss account, statement of changes in equity, segment results and an analysis of the cash flow statement is carried out. In addition, several financial ratios measuring the company's liquidity, indebtedness and stability, EPS and diluted EPS, operating leverage, and profitability ratios will be used. The results show that Thomson Reuters has made significant investments in technology, especially in artificial intelligence, with an $8 billions fund allocated for this purpose. These investments are reflected in the increase in non-current assets and acquisitions of strategic technology companies such as SurePrep, Casetext and Pagero. Financing comes mainly from the sale of assets such as the F&R business unit to Blackstone and subsequently to the London Stock Exchange (LSEG), reinvestment of profits, operating cash flows and financing activities such as the issuance and repayment of debt. The impact has been positive on growth and profitability, with improvements in retained earnings and operating cash flows. The analysis reveals that investments in technology have had a positive impact on Thomson Reuters' growth and profitability. Revenues have increased from $5.906 millions in 2019 to $6.794 millions in 2023, and operating profits have risen from $1.199 millions to $2.332 millions in the same period. The revenue structure has evolved towards a recurring subscription model, providing stability and predictability in revenues. Innovative products such as Westlaw Precision and CoCounsel Core AI Assistant have been launched thanks to these investments. Compared to its competitors, Thomson Reuters shows better financial health in terms of liquidity and debt management, although RELX Group leads in market share and profitability. All three companies have experienced growth in revenues and operating profits, highlighting the effectiveness of their expansion and technological adaptation strategies.
