Author: Barrial i Perea, Laura
Tutor: Camps Arbós, Josep
Abstract: Josep Pla is a Catalan author born in 1897 in Palafrugell. His life journey drives him to write about the events happening around him. He is a worldly person who lives abroad during different periods, giving him various perspectives on how the world around him functions. Pla frequently uses a literary style that is not easy to define—autobiography— and he uses it in such a way that it is complex to identify whether what he describes is real or not. For this reason, much of his work is classified within the genre of fictional autobiography, a mixture of real and invented events. This final degree project will explore his work Madrid. L’adveniment de la República and analyze both the fictional and real autobiographical features. Additionally, a comparative analysis will be conducted between the first edition of the work, from 1933, and the one from 1974, in order to observe the differences between the two, taking the latter as a reference.
