Author: de Andrés Parrilla, Teresa

Abstract: The following pages present a bibliographic and data research on the different suicide prevention plans in Spain and the role of Health Social Work in this field. The aim is to find out the current situation of suicide in Spain and to analyse the different Prevention Plans that exist in the Autonomous Communities of our country, all of which will be carried out with an in-depth study of the intervention and prevention carried out by Health Social Work. Suicide is a public health problem, presenting itself as a complex and multifactorial problem. It is estimated that there are 800,000 deaths by suicide worldwide each year, without taking into account suicide attempts. In Spain there are an average of 10 deaths per day, making it the leading cause of unnatural death. That is why prevention must be carried out in a more effective and comprehensive way from all areas, in order to effectively reduce both deaths by suicide and suicide attempts, improve the detection of cases of risk and direct support to both the families and the environment of the victims. Alarming figures and data are presented on the number of people who decide to take their own lives every day in our country. Health Social Work is presented throughout this work as the fundamental discipline for the prevention of suicide, being health social workers necessary to be able to intervene and make a correct prevention of suicide.
