Impacto del duelo migratorio en nuestra salud mental a lo largo de la vida

Abstract

El proceso de migración de un país a otro puede suponer una ruptura radical con gran parte de los vínculos culturales o incluso de las categorizaciones sociales que definen nuestra identidad. Este estudio explora el fenómeno del duelo migratorio, y cómo afecta a quienes abandonan sus raíces y se enfrentan a la pérdida de su estructura social y cultural. Si bien la psicología transcultural está empezando a tenerse en cuenta, son muy escasos los estudios que revisan o cuestionan si el duelo migratorio es una realidad, y si la intervención psicológica con las personas migrantes está teniendo o no en cuenta esta realidad (y si debería hacerlo). El objetivo de esta investigación es identificar y describir los estresores físicos y emocionales asociados con el duelo migratorio, examinar cómo las profesionales de la salud mental lo abordan, comparar la evolución del sufrimiento psíquico en los casos en los que se ha tenido en cuenta y en los que no, y por último comprender si este abordaje ayuda y facilita la consolidación del vínculo terapéutico. Todo ello a través de una serie de entrevistas a personas que han vivido un proceso migratorio y a profesionales que han trabajado o trabajan con personas migrantes. Esta investigación destaca la importancia de reconocer y abordar el duelo migratorio, no solo de manera individual por las profesionales, sino como un abordaje transversal y colectivo en nuestro día a día como profesionales de la psicología.

The process of migrating from one country to another can involve a radical rupture with many cultural ties or even the social categorizations that define our identity. This study explores the phenomenon of migratory grief and how it affects those who leave their roots behind and face the loss of their social and cultural structure. While cross-cultural psychology is beginning to be taken into account, there are very few studies that review or question whether migratory grief is a reality, and whether psychological intervention with migrants is taking this reality into account (and if it should). The aim of this research is to identify and describe the physical and emotional stressors associated with migratory grief, examine how mental health professionals address it, compare the evolution of psychological suffering in cases where it has been considered and where it has not, and finally understand if this approach helps facilitate the consolidation of the therapeutic bond. This will be achieved through a series of interviews with individuals who have undergone a migratory process and with professionals who have worked or are working with migrants. This research highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing migratory grief, not only individually by professionals but as a transversal and collective approach in our daily work as psychology professionals.
