Abstract: | This research presents the I3EP (Integrated, Efficient, Ecological, and Equitable Production) model, an innovation in economic production theory that integrates efficiency, ecological sustainability, and social equity constraints. The model is applied to analyze the U.S. economy from 1950 to 2018, evaluating the optimal production of capital and labor under different theoretical and practical scenarios. The I3EP model addresses the constraints of the CobbDouglas production function, incorporating frictions and real constraints on input use across its three frontiers. The Factor Production Possibilities Frontier (FPPF) considers technological inefficiencies and transaction costs, while the Sustainable Possibilities Frontier (SPF) and the Minimum Subsistence Floor (MSF) introduce ecological and social constraints, respectively. Empirical validation of the model uses historical capital and labor data, adjusting the theoretical optimal levels by geometric mean to align with historical trends. The results show that the I3EP model provides accurate and realistic information on the productive capacity of the economy, highlighting the importance of considering ecological and social factors in economic a political decision-making. The research concludes that the I3EP model not only improves the theoretical understanding of economic production, but also provides a practical tool for evaluating economic policies, promoting sustainable and equitable growth. Recommendations for future research include applying the model to other economies and incorporating more social and ecological variables to enrich the analysis. |
