Abstract: The enculturation of the idea of the family remains socially entrenched, which means that family diversity is not always recognised. This affects those children, adolescents and young people who have had to leave the family nucleus to be taken into care in other environments. I carried out this research by recounting my experience as an extutellee, giving an account of my vision of the family and the grieving processes I faced along the way. I also drew on the experience of two other young women in similar situations who were in extutellee. With these stories I analyse the consequences in the conception of the family derived from the transition from living in one family to another. The importance of foregrounding the voice and knowledge of those of us who have through the reception situation is emphasised in order to make difference visible so that it can be recognised and welcomed.
