Abstract: The EMR gathers patient¿s health data and integrates diverse information, included vital sings data. Vital signs are captured constantly in a daily basis during patient¿s hospital stay. This data is usually documented manually and, therefore, prone to errors of transcription, omission and right patient¿s assignment.Automatic sending of vital signs to the EMR improves efficiency, quality and patient¿s security. However, the limited connectivity and interoperability of medical equipment, due to a poor standards adoption by these devices, the wide spread of proprietary systems and a high implementation cost and integration, prevent its growth. This project develops a proposal based on ISO/IEEE11073, HL7 and IHE profiles with Rosetta Terminology standards, running on top of an ¿Open Source¿ software layer so that both cost and manufactures¿ proprietary solutions dependency can be highly reduced.
