Abstract: The rise of social networks has forced political candidates and political parties to adapt their communication strategies to the news technologies and the new information channels used by citizens. This research focus on analyzing how the political parties and their candidates who were presented to the elections of December the 21st of 2017 used Twitter during the decisive electoral campaign to the Parliament of Catalonia. The aim of this is to analyze the political parties and political candidates with representation in the Parliament of Catalonia (Junts Per Catalunya, Esquerra Republicana, CUP, Ciutadans, PSC, PPC i Comú-Podem) when they had to face an extremely convulsive political landscape with political candidates in prison, others outside the country, a high number of undecided voters and widespread use of social networks as a way of communication since the tradicional media was distrusted by the citizens. With this aim, the messages published between 5-19 december 2017 from the official accounts of these parties and candidates in Twitter, have not only been qualitatively, but also quantitatively studied.
