Abstract: The aim of this work is to follow the steps to simulate the mechanical behavior of the abdominal wall. The motivation of this study is to determine where is the best place to apply a stoma to reduce the subsequent appearance of hernias. The abdominal wall has been simulated in order to determine which areas are the most affected in the application of external loads. The methodology used includes a first physiological analysis of the specific case, an investigation of the functions of energy as a tool for the mathematical modeling of the behavior of the muscle tissue, the mathematical development of two specific models and the computational implementation. For this implementation, open source software has been used remotely from a remote server located in the Department of Computer and Mathematical Engineering of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Catalunya). To solve the problem the code generator MFront and the package Salome-Meca have been used to design the mesh of geometry, to solve the problem through the finite element method and to do the post-processing of the solutions. This work shows a direct application of mathematics and, more specifically, biomechanics through the use of a free software.
