Author: Escuder Andreu, Sonia

Abstract: During the aging process, there is an increased likelihood of experiencing grief and loss that contribute to a feeling of loneliness, which, although it is a universal experience, is at this stage where it poses the greatest risk for the development of health problems. In this sense, the present study is carried out with the intention of knowing what is the approach of social health work to the unwanted loneliness in the elderly in the primary health care field. For him, several interviews were carried out with seven social health workers from four primary care centers located in the Baix Llobregat and Barcelonés regions. The results obtained demonstrate the importance of addressing loneliness in old age from an interdisciplinary perspective. There is no solid scientific evidence on the best way to intervene in the face of unwanted loneliness. However, its intervention must be done on an integral approach, where the role of the social health worker takes on a special meaning as a generator of change processes, who promotes and accompanies this process of change with and for the elderly through the promotion of social networks as a protective factor of your health.
