Abstract: | At this moment, we can still find different scenarios where Private Mobile Radio (PMR) networks keep performing a key role for voice transmission in emergency response units, fleet management and public events. These networks need full duplex base stations in order to work properly. As a consequence, it is necessary to have RF filtering systems available to avoid the desensitization of the receiver due to the high power signal employed during the transmission stage. Adjusting filter systems requires of specific training and is an expensive process, because complex instruments as spectrum analyzers or vector network analyzers are used. This is the reason for the development of this Project: Two simple and inexpensive methods will be studied to achieve the adjustment of these types of filters in voluntary organizations such as amateur radio clubs, Civil Defence and Red Cross. The first method consists of injecting a high power signal in the filter and measure the output power in the desired resonance frequency, until the lower possible insertion loss is achieved. This is a trusty method, but it is time consuming. The second method is based on the injection of white noise in the filter and adjusting the filter's response using a cheap Spectrum Analyzer based on a SDR dongle. This method is much easier and fast to apply than the previous one, and for that reason is the one chosen in the majority of cases. |
