Abstract: | Inflammation-based scores have recently become so important in Oncology because they correlate with the prognosis in various types of cancer. Focusing on pancreatic cancer, these factors have demonstrated their prognostic value in localized stages of the disease, but their value in advanced stage is discussed. In order to determine the correlation between these scores and the prognosis of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, we perform this bibliographical review. We have analyzed 19 articles and 4 clinical guidelines, evaluating a total of 4306 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. The results revealed that PNI, NLR, PLR, mGPS, MLR, PCR/albumin ratio, neutrophil/albumin ratio, LDH and fibrinogen are independent prognostic factors for overall survival in patients with pancreatic cancer; NLR, PLR, LMR, GPS and fibrinogen are for progression-free survival. It was concluded PNI and NLR correlate with the treatment response, NLR is a risk factor for metastasis at diagnosis and PNI is a relapse risk factor. So, the evaluation of these prognostic parameters can improve and facilitate individualized therapeutic decision-making, although it would be better to design prospective studies to confirm these results. |
