Abstract: A crisis is a situation that arises unexpectedly and must be managed as quickly as possible to avoid damaging the company's reputation. There are different types of crises and in each of them, companies will act in different ways. In the case of a plane crash, the airline must take control of the situation as soon as possible by means of communication strategies that reach all its audiences. These strategies must be defined in advance in what is known as a Crisis Communication Plan, a document that will also include recommendations for forming the crisis committee and choosing a spokesperson, a map of audiences to be addressed through specific channels and messages, tools for good management in social networks and with the media, etc. In practical terms, we analyze the crisis management carried out by Germanwigs after one of its pilots intentionally crashed a plane and killed more than a hundred people. In addition, we will learn about the strategies carried out with the media and in social networks, as well as the economic and reputational consequences the company had to face.
