Abstract: The vulnerability of adolescents to depressive disorders has a high impact on their mental health. The stressors derived from the pandemic have aggravated the intensity of symptoms and the number of people affected. This increase, together with the scarcity of material and human resources, is becoming a burden difficult for health systems to absorb. Conversational agents, capable of acting by simulating human behavior and maintaining fluid conversations, can contribute to increase detection and improve treatments by reducing the current burden on many therapists. The aim of this literature review was to explore the current evidence on conversational agents and to determine whether, in the mental health field, they can be useful in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of depression in this population. The results show that, with the right approach and research, in the mental health field, conversational agents can be effective tools in the management of the various stages of depression in the adolescent population. However, given the heterogeneity of the studies reviewed and current limitations, more research is needed to further determine their efficacy.
