Abstract: ASD has been gaining prominence over the last few years, and has experimented a whole terminological and conceptual evolution, as a result of an increasing incidence and interest in the definition of the disorder. Within this spectrum, it has been seen that deficits in communication and language play an important role among the symptomatological manifestations, which can lead to difficulties in children's development and in their adaptation to their environment. However, as a result of this growing interest, research and early techniques have also been developed to mitigate the difficulties and to improve their prognosis. The present work collects the results of 10 investigations and systematic reviews, from the last 20 years, about early intervention techniques in which communication and speech of children with ASD have been evaluated. The results have shown that DSP, PRT, PECS, JA, ABA, EIBI, JASPER, Denver and Autism 1-2-3 are effective to improve communication and language in children with ASD, while the results of PACT have not shown significant improvements. From the results, it has also been observed that both long duration treatments (for example, over a year) and shorter durations (weeks or months), provide promising results. At the same time, it is concluded that an active participation of the parents or the caregivers as co-therapists is needed, in order to provide the most adapted treatment as possible to each child, considering the high variability within the spectrum.
