Author: Oliva Andrés, Montserrat

Abstract: When we think of the cemeteries, we associate them with spaces of pain and memory, but what most people do not know is that they are also cultural spaces that today are very unknown. The cemeteries are authentic monumental outdoor museums that stand out for their great diversity and artistic amalgam. This heritage is unknown due to the social taboo surrounding death and it is necessary for cultural managers to work to give it the value it deserves. Developing this study is an important task, as the cultural management of the cemeteries is a branch of the profession that has just been born. Starting to manage these spaces is a step towards dignifying them and finding new management proposals for their study and management. The knowledge and management of its assets will serve to inform the institutions with the aim of investing them in their conservation. This work consists of a study of the cultural management that is being carried out at the Cementiri de Montjuïc, and at the same time, a cataloging of its sculptural heritage will be carried out, which will allow the creation of various cultural routes around the funeral complex.
