Abstract: This Masters final dissertation aims to research the use of computer aided translation (CAT) tools in the translation of a financial broker in Trados, SmartCat and Memsource. The objective is to find whether translation memories and termbases are effective in financial translation as well as the differences that can arise between the tools, by using an imported termbase and a translation memory created with existing translations of the same financial broker. A translation of two pages of a financial broker will be carried in DOCX and HTML file formats. The tools themselves will be also analysed in a comparative study of their main features to discover their positive and negative aspects. Moreover, we will investigate job offers that are searching for a financial translator, to confirm whether CAT tools are an advantage. We will observe that segmentation is different and that fuzzy matches appear in a different way depending on the CAT tool that are used. The results show that CAT tools and termbases have a moderate use when it comes to the translation of financial texts. Moreover, the results have shown that having previous job experience as well as knowledge of CAT tools is relevant when we are searching for a job as a financial translator.
