Abstract: Creatine is one of the ergogenic aids with most scientific evidence, and it is being widely used by athletes who want a performance improvement in high-intensity and shortduration exercises. Nevertheless, most of the evidence is from studies that assess the strength or muscle mass gain from young people, while the recent evidence of a possible improvement on cognition is limited, which could be affected due to age. The aim of this work is to analyze the impact of creatine supplementation on physical performance and cognitive function of people older than 45. PubMed has been used to obtain clinical trials that study this topic. A total of 19 studies have been selected, 14 of which analyze the impact on physical performance and 5 on cognitive function. Most of the studies show a clear improvement on strength, performance, and muscle mass gain, while the benefits on cognition are minor and vague. In conclusion, creatine supplementation has a positive impact on physical performance of people older than 45, while on cognition it is not clear due to limited evidence. Also, it is recommended that more studies addressing the possible benefits on cognition are made.
