Abstract: Film industry has been very successful ever since its inception, turning into one of the main means of artistic expression. This industry, which has evolved from the silent film to the high-quality voice film as they are known today, has always been trying to attract more audiences and extent its products, thus breaking every language barriers. The incorporation of dialogues in the film industry entailed a great challenge to internationalize its products. This defiance has been solved throughout the history with some strategies like 'multiversion' films, carried out over the thirties, and other techniques which have survived and evolved to the present day such as subtitling and dubbing. Creating a satisfactory dubbed product which is consistent with the original product and causes the same effect on the viewer of the target language involves a very thorough process in which different professionals take part, from the translation to the final recording of the product. In addition, the translation process for dubbing is not without problems or challenges that must be dealt with. Firstly, the dubbed product must take care of some aspects like lip synchrony, isochrony and kinetic synchrony. On the other hand, translating cultural and humoristic items can be a real challenge when transferring from one language to another with very different ways of seeing the world and which do not share the same knowledge. This challenge is more evident when translating humour, since the product is full of cultural referents and other items such as laugh tracks or wordplays, which force the translator to put his or her creative skills to full use, mainly when there are visual restrictions that limit the translator's leeway. Faced with the challenge of transmitting the cultural referents from the source language to other languages, some trends have been followed, from the domesticating method, where these referents are adapted to other equivalents to the target language, to the foreignizing method, keeping the cultural referent of the source language. At the half-way point, there is another method called neutralization, in which the cultural referent of the SL is replaced into a hypernym without any cultural connotation in the TL. The practical case which is examined in the current article analyses the tendencies towards which the translation of the product is inclined, considering the different techniques of translation relevant for dubbing cultural referents.
