Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present a translation proposal, from English to Spanish, of the short novel You are the only friend I need, written by the New York based Dominican writer Alejandro Heredia, published in 2021 by Gold Line Press. Winner of the 2019 Gold Line Press Fiction Chapbook Contest, the novel is divided into several stories that deal with themes such as friendship, inner struggle or sexual, racial, cultural geographical and linguistic diversity. A preliminary study is carried out on multilingualism, dialect variations and codes-switching, as well as queer theories and inclusive translation, in order to find out the ideal strategies to confront the translation of the work with certain guarantees.
