Abstract: Introduction: With the growing rise of social networks, publications and groups in social networks have been detected that promote eating disorders such as anorexia. We want to know the repercussions that this practice can entail as well as the strategies and resources that can be used to fight against this trend. The objective of this systematic review is to find out about studies that have been carried out addressing the issue of anorexia on social networks, more specifically on Instagram. Resources and Methods: Four databases (Embase, Cochrane, Pubmed and Tripdatabase) are used for the search, finding 118 studies since 2011. An exhaustive reading is carried out from the remaining studies and 11 articles that meet the proposed inclusion criteria are finally selected. The principles of the PRISMA declaration are followed throughout the process. Results: The use of Instagram could be a risk factor for ED, being related to a younger age, an increase in consumption and a greater severity of symptoms. On the other hand, the use of social networks can be a useful tool to combat these diseases and serve as an aid to recovery. Conclusions: Policies and strategies should be established to protect users from consciously or unconsciously consuming this type of content. New technologies such as artificial intelligence could work to facilitate the detection of these types of publications. It is important to continue opening lines of research of this type.
