Abstract: This paper aims to answer the following research question: "How does Frida Khalo's 'Diary: An intimate self-portrait' helps to autobiographically interpret the concept of pain in her paintings?" To do this, we will trace the biographical and/or symbolic elements of her peculiar and deliberate imagery of pain, taking as reference the literary spontaneity, the creative performance that constitutes her Diary. That is to say, our objective will be to interpret the poetics of the pain that underlie in her canvases through her Diary exclusively. Thus, it is an intertextual one-way journey (from the word and the image to the painting) that helps to make the artistic and vital universe of Frida Kahlo better known.
