Abstract: In community ecology analysis of the abundance data using a statistical model approach offers multiple possibilities of addressing key questions in ecology. Advances in the research of models suitable for abundance data and in technology made possible the use of these methodologies. In this project a workflow for the analysis is presented and two practical cases are presented in order to illustrate how model approach is powerful and has a lot of future potential for community ecology. In the first example we test the hypothesis of the effect of the diving technique in the observed community. In the second example we incorporate latent and environmental variables in a model to study their relationship.
